Types of
Opening Title Sequences
- Linear Script
An example of a that would be Silence of the Lambs. In this opening title scene we see the introduction to the main character, while showing the setting and atmosphere of the film. It then follows the narrative to the rest of the film with a gradual transition.
Another example is The Conjuring which also begins film with a storyline and its surroundings..
A Linear Narrative shows what is happening in chronological order (Start, Middle, End). The conjuring shows this as there is a clear sequence of events, throughout the scene, which effectively engages the audience for the rest of the film.

- Non Linear Script
An example of that would be Sinister. We see this in the opening scene as the storyline is unclear. The opening scene starts with an event which happened later on in the film, also a flashback and a video tape. This makes the film disjointed and disrupted. Memento shows this as it includes reversed scenes, vague shots and unknown narration.

- Symbolic
An example of a that would be Se7en. This uses a variety of shots, scenes and visuals, also quick editing. We see short clips of the events going to occur. Another example is American Horror Story. Those openings always present symbols to do with a theme of a season even if they only hint a the events rather than actually showing them.
Symbolic narratives are based around themes and more vague plot points, rather than story.
