Rating horror films through Metacritic
Metacritic is a website designed to give ratings on the latest from the entertainment industry, giving opinions on games, music, films and television of every genre. These opinions come from combining reviews, comments and opinions from all over the internet to give an overall rating. This stops their media ratings from being bias. This is much more useful information for me, as I know the true opinions on a current horror films are not just one person's view, and I can ensure my film will appeal to the entire of target audience. Their ratings are out of 100, and are also colour coded to signify media quality.

I can therefore use the information on Metacritic to see if my Horror film, and its sub-genres of psychology and fanaticism, with the theme of madness, is likely to be well received by both critics and our target audience.

This horror scored 81 on Metacritic, not the highest score but considering it has been around for 30 years, is seen as a timeless movie. This shows that Metacritic isn't biased on how old the movies are but rather on its quality.

This movie has scored the highest on Metacritic's Horror scale. This suggests that it must have overwhelmingly good reviews across the board and be one of the best pieces ever made by the genre.
This is a good positive for my movie plan of Psychological Horror, as this is also a mystery and also plays on the mind. |

The fact that Supernatural Horror is currently most popular, there is a gap in the market for something different. This could be my creepy, realistic and fanatic based horror film. The success of Don't Breathe or Get Out supports the idea that I could do well with something different to current trends.
Also, from what is present in some of the highest rated Horror films, I'm likely to be well received if I use disturbing subject matters, suspense and potentially surrealism, as these tropes are often present. This means my theme of suicide would be perfectly unsettling.
