Classification
The BBFC is a film rating non-government company that assigns any film an age certificate suitable for the content which is displayed. They make the decision on what age rating a game/series or film is and therefore have to be considered when making my OTS. They have the power to cut or reject certain media.
The preferable age rating for a movie is 15 as it is high enough for gore, swearing and violence but low enough to appeal to a larger range of audiences. Despite this, my film will be given a 15 rating as there won't be too much of visual gore aspects, but rather psychological play on emotion and madness. Also if I was to do a higher age rating, it would be harder to work with as both me and my actors aren't old enough to watch ourselves, so therefore we would be unable to cater for older viewer's needs and expectations of a higher age rating horror film. The 12 rating that could be given to my piece is also not appropriate as there will be some violence included not suitable for that age range. Even though the film will be a 15 I think that it will be successful enough as it increases the audience, as teenagers are usually interested in horror. |
A 15 age certificate rating means you have to be 15 years of age or older to watch the film, however with the age rating higher it will contain more content that would be unsuitable for the viewing of a 12 rated film.
