EVALUATION 2
HOW DOES YOUR MEDIA PRODUCT REPRESENT PARTICULAR SOCIAL GROUPS?
Stereotypes
As a way of breaking through the horror conventions I didn't include a typical final girl theory, in fact there is no female cast in the OTS which adds a completely new perspective on horror. This portrays men as victims too, and not just female roles that tend to be weaker in traditional horror and usually victims.
Diversity
Typically the cast in horror is mostly white, with ethnic characters dying first or their lack. In my OTS the lead actor is Asian, which adds to the diversity the audience asks for in horror. This is helping the audience relate more and also show other perspectives.
Killer
In my OTS there isn't one typically scary killer. In contrast we can see that the main character committed suicide - the question is what made him do it? There is many shots of blood, someone 'dangerous' knocking on the door as well all which symbolise danger. By doing this I wanted the audience to confront unconventional look on horror and be scared by their own self.
Victims
The victim in horror media tends to usually be a female as they are seen as vulnerable/weak. To contrast it, I wanted my victims to be male as it shows a fresh view on masculinity. Within our OTS there is plenty of shots that portray weakness of male characters. In addition the victims are teenagers because of a stereotypical age range within horror.
Location
For my location I chose places which are seen as a safe place for the audience such as the house or middle of a city. To make it suitable for horror more I added dark lighting and colour corrected the shots to make them mysterious and lacking of safety. By doing this I tried to create fear in the audience and make them doubt their safety even in their own house.
